We hit up St. Jorge Winery for a pleasant environment, friendly family staff, interesting cheese and chocolate-wine pairing. The first sip was just the beginning.

Later after a few sips... we were enjoying life on the limo bus.

Dr. John Rosten, COA Trustee, asked the new SJOS board to raise their right hand and solemly swear to uphold the responsibility and and integrity of being an SJOS board member.

Our doctors made time to represent COA on behalf of SJOS at the state capitol building in Sacramento.

And onto the green carpet of the assembly floor where bills were passed and laws were made. We stand aside a fellow optometrist, assemblyman, who works hard around the clock to represent the people of California.

Papapavlos: Dr. William Chang

Dr. William Chang specializes in retinal specialist; he was our speaker for the event.  Dr. Doris Wong organized the event with our sponsor, Transitions.   

 

Paragary's: Retinal Consultants

 

 This is the first time we had an event at Paragary's in downtown Stockton.  Check their website here.  The food was great, the talk by Retinal Consultants was very informative too. 

President's Council 2008

This is the first year that the SJOS brought 5 members to the President's Council.  Historically, it has been only the President and the President-Elect who go.  However, we had 3 additional members who showed interest. 

It's great to see our board be active in our profession.  It just shows the dedication it takes to move our profession forward. 

It was a more intimate engagement.  We met all the leaders of each society; hearing everyone's ideas and concerns of the profession. 

The biggest thing was the passage of SB1406; big accomplishment for our profession as a whole. 

Membership Goal

Our goal is to get our membership numbers up!  We would like to hit 80% membership.  So far, we are currently at 55%.  Only half of our colleagues are members; and that concerns us.  Our profession is a legislative profession... WE ARE ONLY AS STRONG AS OUR MEMBERS. 

We are encouraging our current membership to bring a non-member colleague to join our society.  And as an incentive, for each non-member signed up for our society, the COA will provide a $50 Amazon.com gift card.  But more importantly, we have a colleague joining our membership!

Our board members are more than happy to discuss the benefits of being an active member in the society.
